Did you know that 1/3 of everything you eat is a result of honey bee pollination?
Humankind depends on these fascinating animals for food, as well as many other hive products that improve our health and wellbeing.
But honey bees face many challenges in today’s world. Both hobby and professional beekeepers are needed to help maintain the populations of this vital creature. This day-long beekeeping school will seek to help advance the knowledge base of both novice and experienced beekeepers alike.
So, catch the buzz and get ready for the gardening season and spring nectar flow! Open to anyone over the age of 12.
Come learn the basics of beekeeping from Coastal Empire Beekeepers Assn. members through classroom and hands-on experiences. Help us celebrate Georgia's diverse agricultural traditions during our annual cane grinding event. Centered around our 1800's Heritage Homesite, history comes alive with old-time music, cane-boiling, butter-making and cooking on the hearth and open fire. See how "it was back then" amidst the sights, sounds and aroma of an old-fashioned fall gathering.
Children young and old will enjoy hay rides, crafts and games, cane syrup and other fun festival food that will tug at your senses as you venture back through history.
Join us for our Annual fun, safe, not-so-scary Halloween Hike at Oatland!
Take a walk with your Trick or Treaters down the forest trail to meet and gather goodies from friendly animal characters. Mother Earth will be there to show you the way and along the trail to the various character and candy stops along the hike. There will be crafts, face painting, a fossil hunt and many more monstrous activities await your arrival.
Comfortable walking shoes and costumes are encouraged and children must be accompanied by an adult.
This year we ask that you bring your own treat bags.
