Donations in Memoriam for Logan McCay

The Savannah community mourned together on the morning of August 23, 2021 when local middle school student, Logan McCay, passed away on the way to school.  Logan's father, Clay McCay, remembers Logan's connection to Oatland Island and said "I had taken him and his brother there ever since they were babies. We took pictures of them in the big nest for many years. Logan always wanted to be a zookeeper. He would tell you that he wanted to own a zoo, or make video possibly both. He loved all animals."

The McCay family and many in the Savannah community have expressed interest in an ongoing memorial in Logan's honor.  Heather Merbs, Oatland Island Wildlife Center Director, identified a new trail shelter, similar to the one pictured below, as an ideal place to recognize Logan's connection to Oatland.  Any and all levels of donations are welcome and will only be used for materials to build this shelter that will also include educational interpretive signage about a variety of local reptiles, a particular favorite of Logan’s.
